Inheritance?

Growing up, the idea of receiving an inheritance from my parents was never a consideration—it simply wasn't expected. However, it appears that today's younger generations anticipate inheriting from their deceased parents.

A recent study by Northwestern Mutual reveals that younger generations are not only expecting but sometimes relying on an inheritance from their parents, whereas older generations seem less inclined to leave one behind.

The survey, which included nearly 4,600 adults, showed that 38% of Generation Z and 32% of millennials expect an inheritance. In stark contrast, only 22% of Generation X and the same percentage of baby boomers or older individuals intend to leave an inheritance for their children.

The reason for this gap? It could partly be attributed to a sense of entitlement instilled in younger generations. Take AYSO soccer, for example, with its motto 'Everyone is a Winner.' This philosophy awarded trophies to every child, regardless of their engagement or performance in the game, teaching them a questionable life lesson.

Are they entitled? Spoiled? Perhaps.

What is clear from these studies is that there has been a failure to set proper expectations by parents and grandparents. At Quantum Private Wealth, we aim to shift this dynamic.
